The
Los Floridanos Society will participate in the ceremony
celebrating St. Augustine's 438th birthday. The event
is held annually at Mission of Nombre de Dios' outdoor
Altar (arrive by 9:15 am). The ceremony includes
a re-enactment of Menendez' landing in 1565 and a celebratory
Mass will be held commemorating Menendez' first Mass,
held upon arriving at the same location.
The
Los Floridanos Society will join the Menorcan Society
in sponsoring a luncheon, September 6, 2003 following
the morning activities. We will have an "Old Fashion
Florida Fish Fry". The luncheon is open to the
public but reservations must be made in advance. Tickets
are $10.00 per person. No tickets will be available
at the door. Come celebrate St. Augustine's birthday
with us.
To
participate in the activities at the Mission you will
need to arrive by 9:15. Don't forget your medallions.
The luncheon at 11:30 am, will be held at Eddie's
Seafood Restaurant at the Oyster Creek Marina. The guest
speaker for the luncheon will be Dr. Ann Browning. A
birthday cake will also be served to honor St. Augustine
and it's rich history.
