We, as the oldest Spanish Families, will play a key role. Everyone's
participation is needed.
LOS FLORIDANOS flags, with the
Solana and Sanchez Coat of Arms, will fly from the Bridge of
Lions for the festivities.
Friday evening, Feb. 23rd , 4:00pm thru 8:00pm, will be the Spanish
Carnivale. We will be located at the courtyard of the Casa de
Solana and will be selling smoked and fried mullet. All types
of festivities will be going on at the many courtyards, art galleries,
and shops on de Aviles Street, which will be closed to traffic.
We will need at least 10 members to cover the activities at this
location.
Saturday, Feb 24th, we will participate in an opening processional,
it will start at the Menendez Statue in front of the Lightner
Museum, 1:00 pm, please arrive 30 minutes early. All members
are asked to wear black pants/skirts and white shirts with LOS
FLORIDANOS medallions.
The Solana/Sanchez children of
descendants (ages approximately 7 - 18) will be feature in the
afternoon GRAN PASEO, Spanish parade, 3:00pm. The dress will
be black skirts/pants and white shirts with LOS FLORIDANOS medallions.
All members who have children that can participate are asked
to let us know so we can make sure we have enough medallions
for them to wear.
At Government House, 12:00 -
5:00pm, we will staff the booth selling Sangria in the Courtyard
and take part in a late afternoon reception for visiting Spanish
diplomats and dignitaries. We will need 4 people for two, 2 ½
hour intervals to staff the sangria booth. All members are invited
to the reception for Spanish dignitaries and diplomats that will
take place in the Courtyard at the end of festivities on Saturday.
Local restaurants will have booths
in the Plaza all afternoon selling Tappas.
On Sunday, Feb 25th , 11:00, a special Mass will be held
honoring LOS FLORIDANOS members, Spanish Diplomats and Dignitaries.
Please let us know if you plan to attend so that enough seating
spaces can be roped off.
