The Menorcan Festival was a resounding success. The attendance surpassed last year and all that wonderful Menorcan food sold out by 1:00pm. We made approximately $50.00 and had the opportunity to present our family heritage. It was a wonderful day! Dick Rousseau, who chaired the planning committee for the Menorcan Society did a wonderful job. Thanks to everyone who helped.

The King's visit to St. Augustine
April 1, was a special event in the lives of Florida's First Spanish Families. Los Floridanos had ten members attend the Luncheon for King Carlos and Queen Sophia at the Casa Monica. They were; Charles and Gaybe Usina, Madelaine Hugas, Mario Hugas, Frances Barber, Ann Masters, Dick Rouseau, Dot and Dick Scanlon and Linda Brown. Our member, Christopher Garrett, who works for Casa Monica, provided us with the Hotel's gracious hospitality. The Menu included Chilean Sea Bass and salad greens from Hawaii. For the life of me, I can't understand why Chilean fish was served when local seafood is so plentiful and Florida produces such large amounts of green produce. I guess it sounds more exotic.
The members attending have wonderful stories about the day to share with everyone. It was a memorable day for all of us. We appeared on several Jacksonville TV news programs and were interviewed and quoted in the Jacksonville Times-Union. We received great exposure from the coverage and hopefully it will help acquaint everyone with our history.

TOMMY ROGERO
City Commission Meeting
Solana Family Re-union
Los Floridanos lost a dear family member, with the death of Tommy Rogero, this month. We will miss Tommy's smile and presences at our meetings. A donation in his honor will be sent to the Human Society in Putnam County.

Next month we are planning to make a special presentation to the City Commission. We will present the City with a "LOS FLORIDANOS" flag and provide printed material concerning our heritage. We hope the presentation will provide further recognition for us and get our message out to the city officials. Please plan to join us at the City Commission Meeting for the presentation. A large turn-out would certainly enhance our presentation. We will let you know when we set a date.

All who attended the Solana re-union had a wonderful time in Port Orange. As usual, the food was great and re-establishing old family ties was fun. We could not have asked for a better day, mild temperatures and a gentle breeze under the oaks.

Anyone with an email address is ask to forward that email address to our web site so we can send you a copy of our newsletter. You do not have to be a member to receive a newsletter by email.

In the next 10 days we hope to have the Solana genealogy up on the site. It was graciously donated for our use by Coleman Bryan. We will use it as a base for our own research and want to thank him for his hard work and willingness to share. We have a copy of "FAMILYTREE MAKER", any members interested in helping enter the Sanchez genealogy should contact us.

Articles of historical content on the First Spanish Families are needed for use on the web site. We could also use any old pictures. We will scan them and return them to you. We want this to be the "authority" on Solana/Solano and Sanchez history.
