Principle Objectives

Los Floridanos Society
Florida's First Spanish Families
1565-1763

Los Floridanos Society represents descendants of the early Spanish settlers of St. Augustine, Florida who arrived during the "First Spanish Period', 1565-1763".

At the moment the Society represents the Solana and Sanchez families. We are hoping to research others Spanish families that were also citizens of St. Augustine during that period and hope they will join us.

St. Augustine was settled by Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565. Menendez hoped by establishing a settlement of Spanish subjects and soldiers, to expel the French from FT. Caroline in North Florida and secure the possession of Florida for the Spanish Crown.

The Los Floridanos Society is a historical association formed to:

1. Educate members and the public concerning the history, heritage, and preservation of the first Florida Spanish Families.

2. Learn what is already known through the work of the Historical Society, the University of Florida, Flagler College and other college historical archives.

3. Assist in promoting and funding further historical research.
